FINAL PROJECT IN THE WEB

Final Project - Remastering Derive

As described in the Situationist readings and discussions at the beginning of the semester, the derive was an urban expedition in which an awareness of the urban environment and its forces and flows would pull the explorer through the city, remapping or remastering the conventional experience and thuse releasing new connections, new paths, new possiblities. The aim of the final project is to remaster such an experience; capturing or recording the process and assembling an interactive experience of the content. Each student should begin their derive on lower wacker @ Michigan avenue, from this point drift for a minimum of one hour, prefarably longer. You should arm yourself with a camera and if possible a camcorder or video enabled digital camera or microphone. Prior to departing it is probably a good idea to re-read the psychogeography reading. Along the way, record the aspects of the city that are guiding you, left behind articles, signage, smells, people, buildings, passageways, etc... These recordings will be the content of your digital experience.
After your derive, construct an interactive experience using Flash. The goal is to create a digital enviornment that can be explored by a user, a kind of doubling of the derive. Deploy the following conditions in some way in your project.
Integrated media, this should include at minimum one video clip, one sound clip
user based navigation. This should be integrated into the imagery in some way. NO next/previous buttons.
2d map. This map can be a persistent part of the interface or an intermittent or user control display. It should provide a way of coherently locating the user at a point along your derive. It can also serve as an alternative method of navigation. Think about the diagrammatic maps of a video game, especially driving simulations
Atleast one if statement or conditional, allowing the experience to change based on user input.
Provided the projects develop in a timely fashion we wil attempt to interconnect the individual derive's into a collective experience

FIRST PROJECT IN THE WEB

Project 1 - intelligent diagram

The physical and conceptual forces which drive architectural design are often highly dynamic, relative and activated, yet architectural drawings are most commonly presented with static media, whether hand created or digitally produced. For the next 4 weeks, you will be developing a dynamic or intelligent diagram using macromedia flash. These diagrams should represent a dynamic condition relative to your current studio project. Consider such topics as site analysis, conceptual articulation or formal manipulation. The primary requirement of the media is non-linearity or interactivty, simply put we are not concerned with making a movie. Each week there will be a required assignment which will push the development. All progress should be posted to your blog for faculty and peer review.Part 1
In the medium of your choice, create a sketch or static mockup of your proposed diagram.
Based on the sketch, import the images, drawings, or text that will compose the objects or symbols in your flash file.

blog discussion #2

blog discussion : up to this point we have read and discussed a variety of topics including, network cultures, links + connections, mapping methodologies, rhizomes, digital and urban drift, flaneur, derive, blogs/wikis/blikis, memes, virii, bots, agents, and more. For the next class session you are asked to post a question relevant to the readings and discussions we have had so far and and post comments in response to a minimum of 4 other classmates.

And my question is:.....

How would you describe RHIZOME in just a few words??

blog discussion topic #1 post1

I think that in teh globalized world we are living every single thing is in relation to networks.
Before with wired networks you couldn't say the same. But now, with wireless comunication almost the whole word is or can be in contact with a network.

It is curious thow that before when less comunications where aviable the landscape was more modified than it is now. The telegraph or the phone wires were always visible. Now with satellite comunication you just need some antennas or not even that in the case of IRIDIUM...

In buildings has happened the same. the space needed for comunication systems was increasing every time, but I think that with new technologies this space will become null in a few years.

blog discussion topic #1

Describe atleast on way in which the concept of a network (physical, social, digital, etc) has transformed either the physical form of, the approach to the design of, or the experience of, the built landscape.

Why am I doing this blog?

This blog has a double intention.
At first it was some homework for one of my courrent subjects in the IIT called
Arch430 [Networked Technologies]. So you will be seing some posts in relation to it every week.

At tho other hand I am going to use it to comunicate with my frinds and family from Spain, so that they (you) are informe about what I am doing here.

Hope it works for both! we'll see.
